We need your help!

As we draw closer to the announcement of the Hatch Detroit semi-finalists, we're gearing up for forward momentum. We will need your help to move forward in the contest.

Recap:

We have applied for a Hatch Detroit grant which will allow us to receive $50,000 from the generous donors at Comerica Bank and the Detroit Lions. This grant will assist us with the start-up funds for our brick and mortar. We will find out in the coming days whether or not we have progressed to the semi-finals. Please stay tuned as we will need your votes every day, twice a day, for at least 7 days! It will take about 30 seconds to access Facebook and the Hatch Detroit website in order to vote for us. Is that something you can and will help us with? A little birdie told me, there may also be some giveaways during the contest. What would you like to win? Comment below with your suggestions! If you would also like to be added to our email list so we are able to keep you up to date with the happenings of our bakery, please email us (terriscakesdetroit (at) gmail (dot) com), send us a private message or reply in the comments section.

So, you see, you are an integral part of this process! Since we have the best community of supporters around, we know that we can count on you to surpass our wildest dreams. Thanks for being amazing and being part of the positive force behind Terri's Cakes!

Stay tuned for updates!

Give back!

Today, I was thinking about the importance of giving back to the people that help you in life. This road, called life, can be hard to navigate. The truth is that no one becomes successful without the help of others who go before them and stride alongside them. It is a wise person who remembers that no person is an island and no world changer ever did it alone. If you're reading this, I know you have a dream. Everyone alive had something that God put in their heart to accomplish. No matter what it is, you should start now and never be afraid to ask for help. You never know when you'll come across someone who has the exact resource or knowledge that will finish the puzzle! Be open to discovering the purpose of every person and experience that life brings your way, and you can't lose. Once you reach your goals, go higher; but never forget to give back to the community that helped you get there!

Sharing is caring.

When I read a good book, I spread the word. I believe that when I find good information, or experience something wonderful, it is my privilege and responsibility to share the wealth. I love sharing, because sharing is caring and caring is GREAT! It’s like gift giving; I love showing how well I know someone by giving them the perfect gift. It expresses how much a person means to you, when you take time out of your busy schedule to share something that you know he or she will enjoy, and it lets that person know that he or she crossed your mind. Even if it’s just a kind word, or a smile; I encourage you to share a caring gesture today! It will warm your heart as must as the other person’s.

Hint: A cupcake is always a good idea. ;-)

Cupcake fact #2

The largest cupcake ever made weighed over a ton and had 600 pounds of frosting on top. SIX. HUNDRED. POUNDS. Talk about a diet wrecker! The cupcake was made by Georgetown Cupcake, Washington, DC's first gourmet cupcake bakery. I am a chocoholic, but I don't know if I could even call that appetizing. Lucky for us, Terri's Cakes has delicious, gourmet, regular sized cupcakes.

Grab one and see for yourself. ;-)

Let it go.

Do you stress out a lot? Stop it! Seriously; just don't.

You know all those things that are on your mind, constantly? Let them go; release yourself to a life of freedom from the heaviness of unnecessary stress. If someone wronged you six months ago, the only person you're hurting by not letting go, is yourself.
If you made a mistake yesterday, forgive yourself for being human and move forward. Above all else remember that everything will work out.

If all else fails, have a cupcake! ;-)

TCD is awaiting BIG news!

Am I the only one who has a love/hate relationship with waiting for things? Anticipation of exciting news is hard for me, and we're currently waiting for huge news. Terri's Cakes Detroit is a contestant in the Hatch Detroit contest to win a $50,000 grant towards a brick and mortar retail space!
"Hatch Detroit is a vehicle to champion and support independent retail businesses in Detroit through funding, exposure and mentoring."
Their words; awesome mission, though, right? How awesome would it be to walk into Terri's Cakes and be surrounded by all of those delicious baked goods? Pretty awesome, if you ask me.
So, we can't wait to hear whether we made it to the semi-finals. Keep us in your prayers and positive thoughts, as we await the news!

In the meanwhile, grab a cupcake to help you wait. ;-)

Sweet Inspiration

When was the last time you were awe struck? When was the last time you encountered something that inspired you? Whether it was a person, or one of the awesome beauties of creation, what emotion did the encounter stir? Were you spurred to action?
If you can't think of the last time you marveled at something, then you should get out and live. Whether it be something huge, like the Grand Canyon, or something small like the brilliance of combining chocolate and peanut butter, life should be full of stirring moments of joy, laughter, wonder, and awe. Get out there and live!
Don't forget to take a cupcake along as a snack. ;-)

Terri's Cakes has a new flavor!
I know, this is the best news you've seen today. The new flavor is Peach Bellini. It's an almond champagne cupcake with a carmelized peach purée center, topped with an almond champagne peach buttercream frosting. If you're like me, that description just made your mouth water. So, join me in welcoming this new flavor; before it was was just ok, but it needed something more. That's how this delicious creation was born! Place your order today.

Kudos ❤

"Garnet: The first person to start on the 'Cake 'N a Cup' as dubbed on a hand-drawn sign I placed on my cooler, was a young girl that shared hers with maybe four other people. This is great! Soooo good! Get another one. So the introduction started. The interest continued to grow in spite of my stating that one was banana pudding cake. Chocolate and the carrot apple were the favorites. We, Gretchen and I, only had a chance to taste the carrot apple cake and the strawberry. Of the two, I liked the carrot apple cake......"

When I received this email, I thought I was receiving the beginning of a novel. The words were written so eloquently. I could literally feel the emotion in this piece.

And, notes like this make it all worth it.

Have you placed your order yet? ❤

Try something new!

One of the best things about waking up today was knowing that I have the opportunity to try something new. Each new day that we are given is a day filled with endless possibilities and new opportunities. If you're like me, that is sometimes daunting because the unknown can be frightening, if you allow it to be. The truth, however, dictates that God's perfect love should cast out fear. That means that there is no reason to do anything but enjoy the new things that cross our paths each day!
Why not challenge yourself to try something new, and live you're best, most exciting, life?
I'll be starting with one of our new cupcake flavors. ;-)
What's one new thing you want to try before 2014 ends?

Cupcake Fact #1

So, apparently, cupcakes have been around for over 200 years. The earliest mention of cupcakes dates back to the end of the 18th century. That means that Terri's Cakes is taking part in a long heritage of bringing people sweet satisfaction. As you might guess, the earliest "cupcakes" are noticeably different from what we eat today, but the point remains the same; single serve flavorful goodness from the baker's oven, straight to your door!

If you're like me, this fact made your sweet tooth hungry, so why don't you order a dozen and honor the age old tradition of enjoying cupcakes!
